ATC SCM 45A Pro

• So the disaster allowed me to finally do something that I'd been really wanting to do for years, and that is get some ATC speakers
• Now's the time to actually try and get some ATC speakers and what I ended up going with was the ATC 45s
• The ATC 45s are very similar to the the 25s, the current generation 25s, in terms of the tweeter the drivers, but they have a larger internal volume and that additional low frequency driver which gives them a little bigger a little more extended low end in there
• I put them and started to do some listening and holy cow! these things are just ridiculously good and I'm so happy with them
• The thing about them, again, I'm coming from really good high-end full range speakers, and the thing about these that kind of just, you know, set them apart from what I'd been listening to a lot in the past, was detail and clarity - it's just kind of ridiculous!
• To be able to spend hours and days in front of these is just, it's just kind of been a revelation.
• Some people will think ATCs in general are base light, but a lot of that comes from the fact that their low end is so clear and free of distortion
• A lot of times, on cheaper speakers, it's that distortion that gives us a sense that the low end is bigger but actually we're hearing the distortion and the upper harmonics of that distortion creating more bigness low end. On ATCs is really, really clean which can make them feel a little bit base light, compared to some other things.
• Again, the detail and clarity! I'm listening to records I've been listening to for 20 years and noticing wait I never noticed: that there was a shaker in the bridge there…
• There's records that I always loved, in terms of how the guitars and the keyboards may be sort of mushed together. I'm listening to them on the ATCs and hearing the differences: I'm hearing the separation between different instruments on a more detailed level and again, even records that I love because of how they kind of create a big soup, I can actually go in and sort of hear the different elements of that soup better, so it's it's kind of amazing!
